Enefit Green will build its largest solar park together with a wind farm near Purtse in Lüganuse parish, Estonia. It is the first large-scale wind and solar hybrid solution in Estonia.

Chairman of the Board of Enefit Green Aavo Kärmas: “Wind and solar energy complement each other, because wind produces most electricity in the period from autumn to spring, and the highest productivity of the solar park is in the summer months. Therefore, a hybrid park built will make maximum use of the infrastructure and at the same time reduces the costs related to the connection to the transmission network,” explained Kärmas.

According to Kärmas, the construction of the Purtse solar park is part of the company’s plan to significantly increase renewable energy production. “Enefit Green plans to quadruple its green electricity production capacity in the coming years. We see that environmentally friendly and more affordable electricity is very much needed throughout the region, and solar and wind energy are the most affordable way to produce carbon-free electricity,” he said.

The capacity of the solar park in Purtse will be 32 megawatts. The estimated annual production of the park is 32 gigawatt-hours, which covers the annual consumption of more than 10,000 average Estonian households. Electricity production in the new solar park will start in the first half of next year.

Enefit Green is investing up to 19.5 million euros in the construction of the Purtse solar park. The investment security required for the construction of the park is ensured by long-term electricity sales contracts.

This winter, Enefit Green also started building in Purtse a wind farm with five wind turbines and a capacity of 21 megawatts. Active construction is currently underway to build the wind farm.
